Elves are a wise, highly magical, beautiful and immortal species.  They are a major power in the world and to be treated with respect at all times.  They are also very dangerous.  Fortunately they tend to be few in number.

To get an idea of the sort of Elves we are dealing with here, think of Neil Gaiman (Sandman) or Terry Pratchett (Lords and Ladies) rather than Tolkein, and you'll get some idea of what you're dealing with.
